Description

Victory of Light over Darkness

Diwali is a Hindu Festival of Lights. It takes place on the dark night of the new moon in autumn and celebrates the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. To celebrate, we light lamps to represent the illumination of knowledge and awakening of our consciousness. The light represents all the good qualities we carry inside of ourselves; it is our soul, the only true reality.

Did you know?

After Lord Rama and Laksmana killed Ravana and rescued Sita, they all returned to Ayodhya on Diwali. To celebrate their return after 14 years of exile, the joyful residents of Ayodhya prepared to welcome them by lighting small clay lamps and decorating the city with colourful rangoli (coloured rice designs).

What to expect

Our normal evening prayers will be extended to include a special Lakshmi Puja, as well as additional kirtan and lots of singing and dancing.

What to wear

Diwali is a festive occasion. Indian dress is encouraged, but not required. Women are asked to wear saris or ankle-length skirts and men are encouraged to wear kurtas and dhotis, or nice shirts and trousers.

    Sponsor this event

Most of our festivities are free and open to the public. Sponsoring a puja is wonderful way to say thank you to Gurudev for all the blessings you have received from Him. It is also a generous way to help make the event available to others and to contribute to making it memorable for everyone.

The act of giving from the heart is a true blessing in and of itself. By helping to sponsor the event you reap the benefits from all the prayers done during the festivities. Even if you are unable to attend the event, you may still take part by becoming a sponsor.
