To close out the year of 2019, the Bhakti Marga Academy will be diving into ‘The Lilas of the Bhagavatam’. The Bhagavatam is one of the most beautiful and philosophically enlightening Vaishnava texts, rich with practical lessons and modern-day parallels to be explored.

It contains the stories of the Lord's myriad incarnations, from the more famous ones as Lord Krishna and Lord Rama, to lesser-known ones, such as Sage Kapila and King Rishabhadeva. The Bhagavatam gives devotees an insight into their beloved Lord, His wondrous pastimes, and teachings. Uniquely, it also speaks of the Lord's many exemplary devotees, and it is there that we often find the most inspiration and relatability. We read about their struggles, successes, the many mistakes made, and the many lessons learned. However, it is when we observe, scattered throughout the pages of the Bhagavatam, the power of the Lord's redemptive Grace and His willingness to shower unlimited mercy upon the striving souls that our hearts are touched the most. This is where it becomes evident that the Bhagavatam's real power lies not in its intellectual excellence, however great that is, but in its ability to awaken bhakti!

It is with this spirit that we will be tackling eight of the most famous lilas of the Bhagavatam, presented by eight different Academy teachers!

The lilas are:

King Parikshit's Curse - taught by Jaigopalananda
Jada Bharata - taught by Rishi Akashananda
Dhruva Maharaja - taught by Swami Aniruddhananda
Sri Rama lila - taught by Rishi Chidananda
Govardhan lila - taught by Swami Dhaanamjayananda
Rasa lila - taught by Mayuran
Vamana Avatar - taught by Shyam
Gajendra Moksha - taught by Swami Revatikaantananda

All of these lilas have been commented on by Paramhamsa Vishwananda in the book The Essence of Shreemad Bhagavatam. It is a must-read for all devotees!

Live interpretation at Shree Peetha Nilaya

In order to provide the best possible service to our guests, Shree Peetha Nilaya is organizing live interpretation (translation) of certain courses and lectures. The interpretation is done in real-time, allowing participants maximum engagement even if they have no understanding of the language in which the event is held. And all of that is free of charge.

As our interpreters are not always available and/or needed, the following system has been put into practice:

  • When registering for the event, please specify into which language you would need the event to be interpreted
  • Once we receive an interpretation request, we will look for available interpreters
  • After receiving a confirmation from an available interpreter, we will inform you about it and list the language as available on this webpage. It is possible also that no interpreters are available!
  • Please make sure that you register as early as possible and request interpretation, even if the language of your choice is already available.
