Description

Shiva is pure consciousness. He is the Supreme Lord’s greatest bhakta as he is always meditating upon Narayana. Known as the Lord of Destruction, he stands for the dissolution of the mind, which is exactly what we need in order for pure Love to awaken inside the heart. Through his Grace, Shiva destroys our pride and ego so that bhakti can grow in our hearts and we can rise to attain the Lotus Feet of Lord Narayana.

Shivaratri is when you forget about your mind and let your mind dwell only on the Divine. That's what Shivaratri is - it is uplifting you and really awakening what is deep inside of you.

Paramahamsa Sri Swami Vishwananda

Did you know?

Shivaratri is a time to sincerely pray to Lord Shiva to ask him to install himself in our hearts. As we bathe him in the form of a lingam, he is cleaning our inner impurities and awakening the devotion within us, so that we can realise him in our hearts and see him everywhere.

Impressions of Maha Shivaratri 2019

What to Expect

Maha Shivaratri begins in the morning with puja and abhishekam (bathing ritual) done on the large Shiva murti, outside on the front lawn. Evening celebrations start at 18:00 and last until 09:00 the next morning. During the celebration there will be four rounds of puja, abhishekam to Shiva in the form of lingams and guest offerings. To show our sincerity, we stay awake throughout the night singing, dancing and praising the Divine. Traditionally, white is the colour of Lord Shiva.

    Deity Journey

The Serve a Deity program is happy to introduce our brand-new Deity Journey seminars. Each seminar will take you on a journey to help you deepen your relationship with the deity through knowledge, music, worship rituals, chanting, and sangha. The Journey with Shiva is a perfect companion to our Maha Shivaratri festivities. This event is open to everyone who would like to know more about Shiva, the role he plays on the Bhakti Marga path, and how to connect more deeply with the wisdom he imparts.

    Multiply the Blessings!

When we offer our love to the Divine, the Divine showers us with blessings. Giving from the heart is a true blessing in and of itself. Giving without expecting anything in return multiplies the blessings even more, especially when you selflessly sponsor an event. Everyone who helps sponsor the event benefits from all the prayers done, even when you are unable to attend!
