Ganesha Chaturthi marks the Appearance Day of Lord Ganesha. Lord Ganesha is the elephant-headed god also known as the granter of success and remover of obstacles. (That’s why we always honour him with our first prayer before conducting any other worship rituals.) He is the Lord of the Mind and represents intelligence and wisdom.

Did you know?

Goddess Parvati, the wife of Lord Shiva, once fashioned a son out of tumeric paste and breathed life into him. She gave him strict orders to not let anyone disturb Her while She was bathing. Unaware of this fact, Lord Shiva decapitated the boy in a battle when Ganesha refused to let Shiva enter His own home. Parvati was so upset She threatened to destroy the material creation and unless Shiva brought Her son back to life. Due to the urgency of the situation, Shiva took the head of the first animal He found. As a result, the child was given the head of an elephant and a second chance for life.

Ganesha is the Lord of the mind. Unless that mind is tamed and controlled,  you will never be able to really feel love.

Impressions of Ganesha Chaturthi 2018

What to expect

To commemorate Ganesha’s Appearance Day, we will do special Ganesha prayers, pujas, abhishekam, and bhajans during our morning prayers. We will also share some of his Leelas in Satsang.

What to wear

Ganesha Chaturthi is a festive occasion, and traditionally we wear yellow, which is Ganesha’s favourite colour. Indian dress is encouraged, but not required. Women are asked to wear saris or ankle-length skirts. Men should wear kurtas and dhotis, or nice shirts and trousers.

Sponsor this event

Most of our festivities are free and open to the public. Sponsoring a puja is wonderful way to say thank you to Gurudev for all the blessings you have received from Him. It is also a generous way to help make the event available to others and to contribute to making it memorable for everyone.

The act of giving from the heart is a true blessing in and of itself. By helping to sponsor the event you reap the benefits from all the prayers done during the festivities. Even if you are unable to attend the event, you may still take part by becoming a sponsor.
