Krishna Janmashtami celebrates of the birth of Sri Krishna, an incarnation of the Supreme Lord Narayana and the embodiment of Prem: unconditional Divine Love. Krishna’s Leelas illustrate all the different ways one can enjoy and experience a loving relationship with the Divine. Remembrance of His naughty adventures of stealing butter and hearts as a young child, His skillful leadership as a king, and His timeless wisdom shared in the Bhagavad Gita bring joy and liberation to all. There is much to learn from His life which illuminates the Bhakti path, showing humanity that through Love one can attain the Lotus Feet of the Supreme Lord.

Krishna is Love Incarnate. Now, on His birthday, ask Him to be born inside of you. Ask Him to manifest Himself inside of you.

Did you know?

During His search for Sita, Lord Rama encountered a group of sages who recognised Him as the object of their worship. They so longed to be with Him, but Lord Rama was unable to fulfil their desire so He promised to do so in His next incarnation. The sages were born in Vrindavan as gopis, there they enjoyed many romantic pastimes with young Krishna. The love the gopis shared with Krishna was much greater than any human love, it was utterly pure and transcendent in nature. Gopi Love is a flawless expression of a purely devotional relationship, an example for us all to aspire to in our own lives.

Impressions of Krishna Janmashtami 2018

What to expect

The evening’s celebration begins with special prayers and pujas. Throughout the night, we will sing Krishna bhajans and tell stories of the early years of Sri Krishna’s life. Krishna was born at the stroke of midnight which is when abhishekam on Bala Krishna will begin. Afterwards, everyone will have an opportunity to rock baby Krishna in His swing and enjoy mountains of prasad. After the ceremonies, we party: singing and dancing our love for God!

What to wear

Krishna Janmashtami is a festive occasion, and traditionally we wear yellow as that is Krishna’s favourite colour. Indian dress is encouraged, but not required. Women are asked to wear saris or ankle-length skirts. Men are should wear kurtas and dhotis, or nice shirts and trousers.

Sponsor this event

Most of our festivities are free and open to the public. Sponsoring a puja is wonderful way to say thank you to Gurudev for all the blessings you have received from Him. It is also a generous way to help make the event available to others and to contribute to making it memorable for everyone.

The act of giving from the heart is a true blessing in and of itself. By helping to sponsor the event you reap the benefits from all the prayers done during the festivities. Even if you are unable to attend the event, you may still take part by becoming a sponsor.
