Lord of the Common Man

Shirdi Sai Baba was a great Indian saint who was an incarnation of Dattatreya: the holy trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Ever humble and generous, everything He did was for the good of those around Him. Throughout His life, His words and actions were continually breaking the barriers of the mind and religion. He taught that the mind of ignorance sees differences and limitations, but that there is only one God with thousands of Names. We celebrate His greatness on the day when He willingly took on the illness of one of His devotees and left His body in 1912.

Shirdi Sai Baba came to remind the world about unity, and to remind us that it doesn’t matter how the world is going; our focus on where we have to go is the same.

Did you know?

Shirdi Sai Baba was born as a blessing from Shiva and Parvati to Hindu parents, but He was raised by a Muslim couple. When He was just a child, He would go to the temple and read the Quran, and then He would go to the mosque and chant the Bhagavad Gita. From a very young age, Shirdi Sai always challenged the minds of those around Him to expand beyond their current limits. His life was an example: He was simple and He was free.

What to expect

Festivities for this event will begin at 10:00 at the Shirdi Sai Baba Mandir near the entrance to the ashram property. Activities will include special pujas, bhajans and abhishekam on our large Shridi Sai Baba murti. After everything is complete outside a Bhandhara (a free public feast) will be served to everyone present.

What to wear

Shirdi Sai Baba’s Maha Samadhi is a festive occasion. Indian dress is encouraged, but not required. Women are asked to wear saris or ankle-length skirts and men are encouraged to wear kurtas and dhotis, or nice shirts and trousers. The event will take place outside so please dress accordingly.

    Sponsor this event

Most of our festivities are free and open to the public. Sponsoring a puja is wonderful way to say thank you to Gurudev for all the blessings you have received from Him. It is also a generous way to help make the event available to others and to contribute to making it memorable for everyone.

The act of giving from the heart is a true blessing in and of itself. By helping to sponsor the event you reap the benefits from all the prayers done during the festivities. Even if you are unable to attend the event, you may still take part by becoming a sponsor.
